A GIRL’S NIGHT OUT, THAT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE
Hello & welcome to my blog!!!!
St. Agnes hospital hosted A GIRL’S NIGHT OUT, THAT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE event at the Columbia Sheraton on Wednesday October 1st. Now in its third year, this is an annual breast cancer awareness dinner presentation by physicians, health care professionals and breast cancer survivors.
When breast cancer is diagnosed early it is 95% curable, thanks to self breast exams, the latest diagnostic, treatment and genetic breakthroughs available. Diana H. Griffiths, M.D, Medical Director of the St. Agnes Breast Center led a panel of medical experts, survivors and health care professionals at the event. I was pleasantly surprised as these humorous speakers had concise presentations filled with entertaining cartoons which made the information easier to understand for everyone. Their passion for their work was aptly communicated to the audience. Kira Eyring, Regional Mission Delivery Director of the American Cancer Society presented the Terese Lasser Award to the staff of St. Agnes Hospital.
Guests later viewed a great short film by Nicole Johnson titled “Stepping Into The Ring” an inspiring story of one woman’s fight against breast cancer. The short film was followed by a discussion of the emotional battles breast cancer survivors face.
I have never been to St. Agnes hospital but I was very impressed by everyone’s pleasant attitude and the organizer’s attention to detail. For example, the location was pleasantly decorated in pink and white, the three course meal was delicious, the person with the next birthday at each table was asked to take home the center piece as a pre-birthday gift, prizes were raffled off and each person was presented with a single pink rose on our way out of the venue.
We all left feeling much more special and informed about breast cancer than when we arrived. I would definitely recommend St. Agnes Hospital and this annual event to anyone who has cancer or is a cancer survivor. Their website is www.stagnes.org
To the good people of St. Agnes Hospital, please keep up the good work!
