The Washington Ballet Cuts Coners!

Ballet is usually associated with the wealthy, but with the recession, everyone is hurting financially and having to cut corners. As donations and ticket sales are not what they used to be, many institutions including The Washington Ballet have had to make changes. They will now have to play pre-recorded music instead of live music to accompany their performances. This is surely a sign of the times.

Many patrons don’t like this development and some took to TV to share their displeasure, saying it won’t seem real if they don’t have live music. A rep for the Washington Ballet also appeared on TV to defend the organization’s actions by saying they would love to use live music as they always did, but financially they just can’t afford it anymore. He said using pre-recorded music is cheaper and won't hinder the performances.

Talk is cheap, everybody can afford it. These people who are showing their displeasure via TV are going about this the wrong way. As we all know, money talks. If you like something a certain way, you need to support it.

All they need to do is “talk more bucks” by sending The Washington Ballet some nice sized checks and "voila," the live musicians they desire will magically appear. If these patrons don't support the ballet, they shouldn't be suprised if all they have to watch are DVD performances of their favorite ballet company in the near future.

That’s just the way it is. A word is enough for the wise. …….
