~Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins of Kansas~
The event was organized by Amanda, Griselda, Tara, Jess, Katie, Salua, Melissa & Bridget of the WeLEAD class of 2011 to benefit the Women & Politics Institute to ensure that the WeLEAD program is available to female rising stars next year.
WeLEAD is a bipartisan leadership training program run by the Women & Politics Institute of American University. It is the only training in the country that works to increase the number of women working in politics and running for office. The Women & Politics Institute is a non-profit organization and participation in the WeLEAD program is free of charge for accepted applicants.
Future female leaders and their allies turned out to be part of the happy hour meet and greet event featuring tempting appetizers such as Rhode Island style calamari, beer battered onion rings with roasted garlic aioli, and baked Cchèvre with fire-roasted tomatoes and crostini, wings and a well stocked bar. A copy of the book, It Still Takes A Candidate: Why Women Don't Run For Office by Jennifer L. Lawless, the Director of American University's Women & Politics Institute and Richard L. Fox, was also raffled off.
If you missed the event, you can still donate online to support the cause at http://www.american.edu/spa/wpi/contribute.cfm
The WeLEAD family would like to thank Congresswoman Jenkins, for taking time out of her busy schedule to attend the event. Her time and efforts to assist the cause are greatly appreciated.

Ms. Jenkins: I’m delighted to be here to support the WeLEAD program. It’s wonderful that there’s a program to encourage young women in leadership roles in business and politics. For me to be able to do my part by coming out to raise money for the group is a pleasure.
