In Good Times: Steve and Mary Shackelford Harvey
It’s no news that Steve Harvey, the comedian, Family Feud host, author and radio personality traded in his 2nd wife, Mary Harvey for a 3rd wife, Marjorie Bridges Harvey. The divorce occurred in 2005 but recently Mary has taken to You Tube to let the world know what occurred. She said the experience was emotionally devastating for her.
It’s arguable that it’s just the story of a hell having no fury like a woman scorned or just Mary letting her side be known and not taking bullied anymore like she stated.
Her You Tube debut has dragged him into the spotlight. She said he cheated; left her broke and turned her, son Wynton against her. He responded saying he didn’t and why this, why now, on this water on the bridge issue. Each one of them has their own side of the story and only God knows the whole truth right now. The bottom line is that he has walked out and moved on.
Either way, this is not a new phenomenon as men everywhere in the world do this. Though some women may be offended by this, in reality being in the US at least you have rights, have a divorce in court and get alimony and/or child support. When men trade women in for new models in many parts of Africa the woman’s ends up with nothing. Her stuff is thrown out in the streets. So at least Mary has something to fall back on. However, no matter what, being a woman who was there when a man is struggling before he makes it and then trades her in once he has must definitely hurt.
But what is surprising to me is that considering how often this happens some women still think it can’t happen to them. I don’t understand why they think that way. Why not you? Do you think it can’t happen to you because you are so beautiful or what? Honey, it has happened to beauty queens who are better than you in every way shape or form. Women who are better looking, more intelligent, more educated, more articulate, better behaved and wealthier have been victims of such behaviors by their husbands. So I don’t believe any woman should think it could never happen to me.
Wise women would actually think, “It might happen to me and if it does what I will do?” That’s why I believe you should love your husband to a point the same way men love you, to a point. Women need to get real as far as men are concerned. The bible in Matthew 22:37 states: Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. The bible DOES NOT instruct women to love their husbands. The bible instructs men to love their wives and wives to respect their husbands. Ephesians 5:33 states, “However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.” So women should respect their husband and have your financial and emotional exit strategy in place in the event that you need it. It’s better to have it and not use it than not to have and need it.
A Yoruba proverb states that the whip that is used to beat the senior wife is up in the attic for the junior wife. Meaning a man may change partners, but his behavior change. If as is being alleged he cheated on his first wife, it’s just a matter of time before he does it again. A leopard can’t change its spots. I’d like to hear Steve Harvey’s first wife’s recollection of how their relationship ended. I hope Mary had nothing to do with how Steve’s first marriage ended because if she did, then this is just karma.
Anyway, I feel sorry for Mary Harvey who stated comments including the following, “He turned my son against me. He had me thrown out. At a moment I was down and devastated, he manipulated everything against me. He said had built this thing by himself. I fell apart. I woke up everything was gone.” He may have done all that but airing on You Tube won’t undo his actions or stop her hurt.
Malachi 13 -16 states: 13 Another thing you do: You flood the LORD’s altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer looks with favor on your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands. 14 You ask, “Why?” It is because the LORD is the witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful to her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant. Has not the one God made you? You belong to him in body and spirit. And what does the one God seek? Godly offspring. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth. “The man who hates and divorces his wife,” says the LORD, the God of Israel, “does violence to the one he should protect,” says the LORD Almighty. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful.
Based on this bible verses above unlike the American litigious way of handling situations where everything ends in a law suit, my advice to Mary Harvey is to just make sure her heart is pure, be prayerful and let God, who says in Romans 12:19 states, “Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord” avenge you.
There’s nothing you can do to hurt Steve that will outdo how God will resolve the matter for you. God isn’t the fastest avenger but he’s definitely the best. Just pray, be still and know God is God.

DUMPED?
Essence magazine is said to be considering dropping Steve Harvey as its love guru in the magazine, which helps Black Women find men who don't cheat and other issues.
NOT HAPPY
Author of Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man Denene Millner is upset that BlackPressRadio published the quote that she GAVE us this morning.
Millner told Black Press Radio: "I was not privy to information about Steve and his ex-wife" when Black Press Radio reached out to her this morning. As an author and journalist, it's odd that she would not have met his wife or that they didn't speak about her since she was there for all of Harvey's success, but maybe she didn't.
"She doesn't wish to be a part of the conversation about Steve Harvey's mess, although she co-wrote the book and spoke in Essence," said DC Livers who spoke with Millner via Facebook. "I have much respect for her work so I am saddened that she's unhappy, but clearly she needs to be real with the fact that the country wants answers about Harvey and readers want the authors to talk," Livers said.
"I spit on your book!" That's what one well-known author/filmmaker wrote about Harvey's situation. Tim Alexander is no stranger to Black men's issues. In fact, he's somewhat of an expert on the topic. As director of "Diary of a Tired Black Man" Alexander has the ears of Black men and women around the country.
Stay tuned to BlackPressRadio on Facebook and Twitter as we will keep you posted on whether Ms. Millner decides to break her silence and give her female readers the answers they clearly deserve
• BREAKING NEWS: Steve Harvey's mistress/3rd wife speaks out, plans lawsuit against Mary Harvey: I'm the new Mrs. Harvey b*!#@
(BlackPress.org) - Where is Madea when you need her?
BlackPress.org has learned that Steve Havey's mistress turned third wife Marjorie Bridges Harvey has decided she needs to speak out and plans to sue Mary Harvey for defamation of character. BlackPress.org first reported on the story early January 25
Here's her quote: "As a wife and a mother I cannot stand back and allow the defamation of my character or actions that will malign my family. So I will do what I need to do to the greatest extent of the law," Marjoire Harvey said in a statement late Tuesday.
"[The new] Mrs. Steve Harvey is shocked and dismayed that Mary Harvey, Steve's ex-wife, posted the malicious and baseless video on YouTube," the official statement released by Marjorie's lawyer.
"The posting is nothing more than a sad attempt to Mary to make herself relevant in the eyes of the media. Now that the publicity splash is over, Mrs. Harvey looks forward to making her case in court."
Hopefully girlfriend is smart enough to hire her own lawyer and not let Mr. Harvey pay for it like the previous wife did.
