Earth to Roy Williams - Money Can’t Buy You Love‏

The media is all abuzz with the news of hunky Dallas Cowboy wide receiver, Roy Williams, a successful African American man, sending a $76,600 engagement ring to his beautiful Miss Texas USA 2009 title winning Caucasian girlfriend, Brooke Daniels, with a tape recorded message asking her to marry him. The package also included $5,000 for her school and medical bills, and a baseball for her brother.

Although they make a very cute looking couple, she declined to be his trophy wife, but she kept the ring. This only reinforces the fact that money can't buy you love. Six weeks later he asked for the ring back, but she said it was lost. The ring was later found to be with her father who said Williams said she could keep it. Her father has said he would return it to avoid a law suit. Although, I believe Brooke’s dad when he said Williams said she could keep the ring because of the time the situation took to get to this point, I think it's in bad taste to keep such a ring. In addition to that, engagement rings are considered under a conditional-gift rule, which constitutes a promise to marry in Texas. That means if a ring isn't accepted for marriage, it must be returned.

For a couple who lived together for about a year previously, and now live separately, the whole situation seems like he proposed marriage to win her back, while she didn’t want to move forward in that direction after she caught a glimpse of what their married life would be like when they lived together. He may have had his heart set on snagging him this enviable “brick house” good catch of a woman, but it wasn't meant to be. Having her on his arm as his wife would have make him look so good, while subtly oppressing his African American single sisters, who are practically begging for marriage from anybody who will have them, talk more of a handsome and successful NFL player, no matter how mediocre they say his football game is.

Admittedly, most of them may not as good looking as Brooke nor do most of them have Miss Texas USA 2009 winner on their resume, but they need husbands too and Williams is a good candidate to make one of them a good husband. But to be in the big leagues, there are unspoken rules and symbols of wealth you must have or acquire to fit in, such as an extremely beautiful trophy wife, so Williams’s choice is very understandable. However, according to her father, Williams and his daughter had often argued when they lived together. To her, this may have shown that they are incompatible and she chose to not be greedy and marry him. So very contrary to what some people are saying about her, she is NOT A GOLDDIGGER. If she was, she would headed straight to the alter with him, without a pre-nup of course, while scheming and calculating how much she’ll make when she divorces him. However, if she is accused of being a gold-digger, then he should also be accused of being a CAUCASIAN & BEAUTY DIGGER too, because in terms of what each is bringing to the table to raise their social stratification, his money is equivalent to her beauty and race. So people should get that straight.

However, philosophically speaking, she’s really doing him a huge favor. She doesn’t want to be with him “till death do us part.” She has shown it upfront, which is very noble and commendable of her. Even if she keeps the ring, it still ends up being cheaper than Williams marrying her, having kids with her, getting divorced, having to regularly pay alimony and child support to her and having some biracial kids with separated or divorced parents that experience identity crisis and racial confusion. If one thinks about everything at stake, Brooke is practically a saint who is stopping a future train wreck from happening.

I sympathize with Williams, and I have some advice for him. He should do what many of his fellow successful African American peers do, which is, find an equally beautiful Latina, biracial or light skinned African American girl with long hair or a weave, overwhelm her with his money and marry her. Due to the fewer eligible single successful men in those demographics because so many are in jail or aren't successful, any one of these types of ladies will feel so lucky to have him. If for some weird reason she doesn’t realize her good fortune, her friends and family will quickly school her to the game. So, with that, he will be good to go. He gets his beautiful trophy wife to show off to his friends and family, has biracial or light skinned kids with long hair and she gets a rich husband. With this scenario, they both win…
