Make Peace with Change

Source: www.ideachampions.com
The only thing that’s constant is change. We see the sign subtly or blatantly stating "Change Ahead" all around us. We can choose to ignore or embrace it, but regardless of our reaction it's going to happen. So it’s wise to make peace with it. But more often than not, we don’t like change because of the uncertainty, compromise, stress, destabilization and work that comes with it.

When situations occur that force us to change, we sometimes let them get the best of us because we waste so much time holding on to yesterday and crying over what was, instead of accepting what is and focusing on the endless possibilities of what can be.

We all know that it’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday, however, we must have faith that our lives are in God’s hands and regardless of how we feel about the change occurring. We must philosophically believe that  it is in God’s divine plan for our lives.

To buttress my point, today, I heard about some people who made change work for them and I thought I’d share on that topic to encourage my readers.

Scenario 1: Work hard and encourage others to create positive change.

A teacher turned an at risk school into award winning school by working hard, encouraging the students to do better, have high self esteem and high standards and providing the amenities to do so.

Scenario 2: Change your focus to stay in business.

A construction company was hit by the down turn in the economy. They weren’t selling houses anymore, so there was no need to build. They thought to themselves, “If we can’t sell the work via our products, which in this scenario was houses, let’s sell the experience of working on a work site to people who’d like that. Have people clock in, clock out, don a hard hat, drive big construction machinery and enjoy the experience. People who are adventure seekers who’d go to fantasy baseball camps would love that.” This new model is working for them.

Scenario 3: Tweak your vision

This scenario really speaks to making lemonade when life throws you lemons. A house flipper who was previously buying, fixing and reselling houses wasn’t doing well with the downturn in the economy, so he turned into an interior decorator and designer. He also now has a TV show on his new gig.

All these scenarios worked because people were creative and put in the required time and effort to make their new business model work, which is real hard work.

So, when change comes, fear not, but be ready to work hard and endure some unknown. Remember, if something doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger, so make peace with change because whether you like it or not, it’s one thing that’s constant and will never go away.

A word is enough for the wise…
