Weight Gain = Relationship Loss?

Food often goes from the tongue to the tummy to the thighs, but ladies we may need to push away from the table, stat! A Cosmo/Askmen survey of 80,000 unmarried men revealed that 50% of them would leave their partner if the partner gains significant weight.

Weight can lead to relationship dissolution because men believe the looks and body type of who they are with is a statement of who they are. They believe it shows if they have low self-esteem or if they not successful. So, you are not imagining things. The whole trophy wife as a status symbol thing is very real. For women, 26% say a successful man is the ultimate status symbol, while 39% believe family is the ultimate status symbol. So, I guess to each his own.

Weight gain is also just more than a partner gaining weight, to men, they believe she no longer cares about her appearance and doesn’t care about how she looks to and for them. So ladies, if we don’t want to be traded in for a new model, I suggest we push away from the table and hit the gym.

However, if we flip the coin, only 20% of women would dump their partners who gain weight. It shows that men are brutal or being more politically correct, shall we say less forgiving in such situations, while women are more forgiving. Talk about the double standards of weight discrimination.

Weight discrimination is not only in romantic relationships. It is worse in the job and dating markets. Ultimately, physical attraction is very important in relationships. However, being at the weight that makes you feel your best and boosts your confidence is ideal.

A word is enough for the wise...
