Happy Black History Month!

As we celebrate our past heroes, we celebrate our present heroes as well. Today, we celebrate Christine Carter - Davis. Below is her story.

30 year old North New Jersey resident and mother of two, Christine Carter is to be celebrated for her hard work in creating Against All Odds, a non-profit service provider for the less privileged.

She is a residue of the 1980's drugs infestation that swept through the NJ projects. She lost both her parents to HIV/AIDS and substance abuse, and lived with strangers, on the streets, in foster homes, and with different family members. Fortunately, the tide changed for her when her teacher, Faith Allen made her believe she could get an education and become successful. This shows that the power of a teacher believing in her students is immense in their development.

She later earned a Bachelors degree in Social Work, graduating Magna Cum Laude from her class. After years of working for companies, she took the leap of faith and started her non-profit organization, Against All Odds, where she serves her underserved New Jersey community members through several programs such as a soup kitchen, life skills training, financial literacy training, after school programs, free tutoring and reorienting at risk youth.

The organization has been an effective one stop shop for services for families and individuals, so little girls and boys who come from humble beginnings are not left behind. They have facilitated positive change in the community, and the community trusts them to get services they need.

Proctor & Gamble and The Wendy Williams Show in celebrating My Black Is Beautiful, the P&G program that celebrates our unique beauty and Black History Month, an annual month long celebration of African American history and achievements, gave the organization a $10,000 donation, which will take them a little bit further in their cause.
