Black Girls Rock Queens’ Camp 2011


Black Girls Who Rock!

Black Girls Rock presents the 2011 Queens’ Camp, a FREE two week intensive summer leadership youth development camp for girls ages 12-17 is accepting applications from around the world. The camp which is held at Ramapo in Rhinebeck, NY from July 16-30, 2011 will feature dynamic workshops geared to strengthen leadership & excellence.

The overnight camp is for exemplary teenage girls of color from various social, economic and geographic backgrounds. Through the highly selective process the camp will accept 20 girls who exhibit strong leadership qualities, high moral character and excellent academic standing. The camp will highlight the importance of teamwork, community building, communications, problem solving, self-reflection, leadership and collective accountability, so they are prepared to be sound leaders in academics, creative and performing arts, public service and civic engagement.

Camp classes will include:

DJ 101 Workshop

Taste of the World Culinary Culture Series

Spoken Workshops for creative writing and performance

Sisters’ Empowerment Circle


The curriculum will include:

Conflict resolution

Risk management

Academic enrichment

Life skills training.


Sports and recreational activities will include:

Hiking

Boating

Arts and crafts workshops

Volunteer opportunities

Challenging rope course.
