Help Save Trees In Baltimore!
Trees are disappearing in downtown Baltimore, and dozens more could follow in the next few weeks -- all to improve the view of a car race.
During Labor Day weekend, Baltimore will be the site of a Grand Prix race. It's no secret that being a host city of a huge sporting event means a lot of preparation. But instead of sprucing things up, Baltimore is chopping trees down: More than 100 trees may be turned to stumps in order to improve the "view" of the Grand Prix race.
That's why Change.org member David Troy started a petition to Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to stop the city from cutting down any more trees. More than 1,700 people have already signed David's petition; if enough Marylanders speak out, the city can stop this destruction.
There's a lot of momentum -- but with dozens of trees already killed, there's not much time to save those that remain. Can you sign David's petition to tell Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to put trees before the Grand Prix? Help David reach 3,000 petition signatures and double the impact he's already made.
Not only are these trees coming down, the plan to replace them actually includes some trees in pots--yes, potted plants--so that the new trees can be easily moved for future races. And, some of the trees that have already been cut down were more than forty years old, with trunks more than 3 feet in circumference.
David already has the attention of City Hall and Grand Prix officials. In the face of media attention and more than 1,700 petition signatures on David's petition on Change.org, officials have tried to change their story and downplay the tree removal plans. It doesn't change the fact that current plans call for trees to be cut down every year for the next four years.
Help reach 3,000 signatures on the petition to Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to stop further destruction of trees to improve the view of a car race. Click here to add your name to the petition right now or visit www.change.org/petitions/trees-before-grand-prix
Thank you for being a change maker!
