It’s time to put our thinking caps on. Crucial global issues were presented in the documentary films category of this year’s Sundance Film Festival held January 21-31 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. The issues the documentary film presented were a window to the world, and should evoke dialog about what is currently occurring around the world. Below are the documentary films and the issues they highlight:
Restrepo: The truth behind the death of two US soldiers who fought in Afghanistan
Waiting for Superman: The lack of results from the No Child Left Behind Act
Kick in Iran: Overcoming gender restrictions in Iran to become an Olympic athlete
The Last Train Home: The world’s largest human migration – 130 million migrant workers in China go home once a year.
The Red Chapel: Life in North Korea
Taqwacores: The Punk Islam Movement
A Small Act: Non-profit giving an its life changing impact
Enemies of the People: Genocide in Cambodia during the 1970s
Waste Land: Found-object art from impoverished populations
Exit Through The Gift Shop: Street Art – The largest counter-cultural movement since punk
Sins Of My Father: A son struggles to rebuild life in Colombia without the drug trade
Gasland: Environmental consequences of hydraulic fracturing to obtain gas.
After reading these issues, what do you think you can do to help or make the world a better place? If you can do something, please do. If you can’t, keep thinking, you’ll find what you can do, no matter how small to make the world a better place.
The world has too many onlookers, what the world needs are problem solvers...
