In the bible, 1st Timothy 6:10 states, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” Also, a Yoruba proverb states, “The source of some wealth is very humiliating.” The recent actions of a 20-year-old Irishman who swallowed $200,000 worth of cocaine encased in capsules that was uncovered at Congonhas Airport in Sao Paulo, Brazil shows how true these sayings are.

The Irish Independent News report states that a security personal on Monday detained a nervous traveler later allegedly found to be smuggling approximately 72 bags of cocaine in his stomach. Authorities with the Brazilian Federal Police released x-ray images showing the suspect identified as F.B.B., which appear to show his belly full of drugs. Police said the man was boarding a flight to Lisbon en route to Brussels. Instead of making the trip, authorities escorted the man to a nearby hospital where the capsules were removed, MSNBC reports.

Although I don’t condone what he did, I am very thankful that this man although in police custody is still alive and well, because he could have died if one of those capsules had burst open in his stomach and God doesn’t want the death of sinners, but he desires for them to come to full repentance. What this man did isn’t new as many drug traffickers use this life threatening method which has low airport detection rates to smuggle drugs.

However, we all know what he did isn’t right and just goes to show what the love of money will make some people do.  If this guy had been successful and become an overnight money bag, his peers would’ve wondered where they went wrong in their careers to not be making such large sums of money. They would have questioned and even cursed God, instead of realizing that some people are ruthless and will do anything immoral or unconscionable just to make money. 

So, I would like to remind everyone to remember that all that glitters isn’t gold and not to be envious of rich people when you don’t know the source of their wealth as they will suffer the consequences of their crimes at some point in their lives. The best way to live life is to not be greedy, cut your coat according to your size and do the best with what you have.
