If you want clean air and safe water for your family, neighborhoods free of hazardous waste, and our precious natural lands protected, your help is needed now.
Some people in Congress are trying to shut down the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), repeal the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act, and defund efforts by the Department of the Interior to protect our nation's wildlife and natural treasures. We must stop them from rolling back these fundamental environmental protections! The EPA makes big companies play by the rules that help keep our children safe from pollution. It's a true lifesaver. By 2020, the Clean Air Act will help prevent more than 230,000 early deaths, 120,000 emergency room visits, 2.4 million asthma attacks, and 200,000 cases of acute heart attacks.
We'd hate to imagine the adverse health effects for our children and families if the EPA disappeared. That's why we are doing everything we can in Congress to sound the alarm, but we need your help too. Will you join us in telling Conservative Republicans to stop their dangerous attacks on our health and our environment? You must help keep our air and water clean and our treasured lands safe. They want to take us back to a day when smokestacks fouled the air, rivers were treated like open sewers, and chemical plants poisoned our communities. Forty years ago, before the EPA, that was the kind of rampant polluting America endured.
Before the Clean Water Act was implemented, Americans faced the threat of severe – even fatal -- illnesses from contaminated water. Now, our rivers do not catch on fire because they are choked with dangerous pollution, and we can give our children a glass of tap water knowing that community water providers must meet strong federal drinking water standards. They are also putting corporate interests ahead of America's most treasured natural resources. They want to help the big mining and oil companies that are eyeing Red Rock Wilderness and Bristol Bay for development. They don't care that beautiful places like the Chesapeake Bay and Lake Tahoe are in danger. It's wrong.
We must stop these people from playing politics with our environment and our health. It seems crazy that an agency as essential as the EPA could be abolished. The danger of keeping silent is real. Click here to join us and add your voice to the growing chorus telling Congress that we need the EPA to enforce critical environmental protections. Take a stand right now.
Thank you for standing with us.Senator Ben Cardin & Senator Barbara Boxer
