The Musicians of Mercy Orchestra and local musician, William Soul, will hold a benefit concert in honor FIRN’s 30th Anniversary and to support their Survivors of Violent Crime program.
The concert entitled, “FIRN’s 30th Anniversary: Empowering Foreign-Born Survivors of Violent Crime” will be held on Sunday, September 25th, 2011 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 6800 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia, Maryland 21045.
Proceeds from this event will benefit FIRN which has served the Howard County immigrant population since 1981. The price of admission is simple, just a generous donation which can be made by going to http://firnonline.kintera.org/empoweringsurvivors. Attendees will receive a purple ribbon to show their support for survivors of violence. Donations will also be collected at the concert. This will be an evening of incredible music from notable artists and will support a very worthy cause.

Musicians of Mercy (MOM) is a collective of over seventy independent musicians and artists based in the Metropolitan D.C. area. Founded and directed by violist Robin Fay Massie, the group was formed in January 2010 following Haiti’s devastating earthquake. Through the production of themed benefit concerts, MOM raises funds for victims of natural disasters and other tragedies.
William Soul is a local musician whose music is described as an organic blend of rock, soul, blues, and more. His aim is to uplift the global community and reignite social consciousness in the heart of mankind.
FIRN is a nonprofit organization in Howard County, Maryland that empowers immigrants, refugees, asylees and other foreign-born individuals by helping them to access community resources and opportunities.
It serves immigrants from over 75 countries. It has helped more than 15,000 new Americans assimilate into life in the Howard County by providing direct client services such as crisis intervention, immigration counseling, information and referral- health care, housing, transportation, child care and other vital resettlement issues. FIRN provides interpreter services and cultural awareness training to community agencies, works in partnership with local government agencies and non-profit service providers, and is well known as the key resource in Central Maryland for the foreign born. In partnership with health and human service agencies, FIRN provides valuable assistance and guidance to immigrant clients.
