Autism, The IPad & Acting!
Do you know an autistic person and you're wondering what you can do help him or her live a much fuller life? Well, one thing you can do is see how using the IPad can help them. The very respected TV show, 60 minutes recently featured how the IPad in combination with several autism apps is helping autistic people to express themselves verbally. The video is available at http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7385686n
It should be noted that due to the fact that there's a wide autism spectrum, the IPad works for some, but not all austistic people. However, for those it's working for, their care givers are very appreciative.
Also, a while ago, I spoke with Bruce Nelson, an autism acting teacher and he said many autistic people tend to be loners. He said their disconnection from other people is part of their symptoms and sometimes they may also feel ignored by others and drama classes helps them combat that. Also, many are teenagers who are just surly and drama helps them express themselves in a creative way. Many also have past emotional, physical or behavioral issues and drama classes also helps them get past them as well.
So, if you have an autistic child, make sure you explore all these options.
A word is enough for the wise...
