TELL CONGRESS TO STOP DEFUNDING U.N. AGENCIES!

HELP GET 5000 SIGNATURES FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA:

The United States' withholding of funds to UNESCO has forced the agency to cut its budget by $65 million, affecting its ability to promote literacy programs in Afghanistan and Holocaust education worldwide, as well as the expansion of a global warning system for tsunamis.

Irina Bokova, the Director-General of UNESCO, noted the consequences of the United States pulling out funding - “The United States is a critical partner in UNESCO’s work. The withholding of U.S. dues and other financial contributions will weaken UNESCO’s effectiveness and undermine its ability to build free and open societies."

UNESCO is the first U.N. agency that the U.S. has stopped funding. Unless President Obama is granted a waiver to two U.S. laws that force the U.S. to withhold funding to U.N. agencies that recognize Palestine, the U.S. could be forced to defund the World Health Organization, which immunizes children around the world and the International Atomic Energy Agency, responsible for monitoring nuclear programs in Iran and North Korea.
